ABOUT ONE-CARE

At One-care, we believe real support starts with real connection!

We work with neurodivergent teenagers and young adults (around 13–25 years old), matching them with carers who truly get them — people who share their interests, understand their world, and can build genuine friendships that go beyond surface-level support.

So often, young people are paired with carers who care deeply, but don’t really connect. They might be from a different generation, hold outdated ideas, or focus more on “getting them out of the house” than actually engaging with what lights them up. We’ve seen how much of a difference it makes when the match is right — when someone can talk about the same games, laugh about the same shows, or share the same music.

That’s why we’re building something different.

We want to bring together neurodivergent young people and carers who are like-minded, who can support them in exploring their interests, growing their independence, and learning what it means to be a young adult today.

We know that many kids and teens with disabilities, especially those with autism, have strong, focused interests. Those passions aren’t side notes — they’re gateways to connection, confidence, and community. We want carers who see that, and who make those interests a priority.

Our inspiration came from our own experience with Jye. We noticed that when he spent time with younger carers who shared his interests, something special happened — he opened up, laughed more, and built real bonds. With older carers, the connection wasn’t the same. The focus shifted to outdated ideas about behaviour or “being a man,” and it left him feeling misunderstood.

That experience showed us how powerful the right match can be — and how harmful it can feel when it’s missing. Neurodivergent young people already work so hard to understand and fit into the world around them. The least we can do is make sure the people supporting them understand their world too.

At One-care, we’re here to create those matches, the ones that feel easy, fun, and real. The kind where both the young person and the carer walk away feeling fulfilled, connected, and seen.

Because when we connect through what we love, we grow together.
